How would you describe your first semester of dental school?
My first semester at the WVU School of Dentistry was a huge adjustment- especially since I’ve lived most of my life in Florida and attended the University of Florida! My parents went to dental school at WVU, but that didn’t fully prepare me for the cold WV weather!
What was the hardest part?
Initially, it was a challenge for me to find a balance between studying for the didactic portion and practicing my lab skills. After a couple weeks it became easier as I got into the groove of things. Waxups were also challenging at first, but it was rewarding to see the progress I made as the semester came to an end.
What was something you didn’t expect?
I’ve wanted to be a dentist for a very long time, but I never expected to enjoy the school aspect as much as I have. I’ve always tolerated school, but now that I’m learning what I will need to know for my career with people who share the same interests as me, it makes me even more excited for my future in dentistry.
What was your favorite part?
I met a lot of great people, and am happy to call them my classmates! School is so much more bearable when all of your friends are going through the same thing as you are, and it’s exciting to be able to watch as we succeed together. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve done, but it’s also the happiest I’ve been knowing this is what I’ll spend my life doing.
